Road trip: Marbella

I've always wanted to go on a road trip. In fact I started out in uni bugging everyone I knew to take me out on road trips, but things don't always work out the way you want them to. And that's why you leave the good things for exchange in Europe.

We decided it'd be a good idea to take a trip down to somewhere and to drive down because Philo's a huge fan of driving and we're girls so we're always open to the option of having someone drive us around. After trying to visit 6 cities in 6 days we settled for just visiting Marbella and Seville, which were about 10h drive down without any stops (except for the refuelling of the tank).

And if anyone's as worried as we were about finding petrol stations along the way - there were plenty of Cepsa petrol kiosks. Unless you're driving in the dead of the night (like we did on our way back to Barcelona) then.... well you'll still find something. We did, at least.

Took us forever to find a car that we were okay with because some car rental companies have restrictions on like a max of 350km a day. But Centauro's all good - unlimited miles so it's perfect for driving all the way to the other end of the country.

We had the windows down

We stopped over to pump more petrol and saw this crazy amazing view of these mountains. At first they were just pretty cool. Then the sun started setting ('cos we were taking too damn long with photos) and it had this pinkish-purplish tint to it with the blue in sky slightly hazy. Pretty much like the perfect Instagram photo, just that it was impossible to capture, very much real and in front of me.

We went to the 'Funky Buda beach' the next day - at least that's what turned up on my Instagram locations, rented chairs for 5 euros/pax and stayed there for 5 hours just drinking coke, reading books and sleeping.

And after doing nothing all day, we drove down to Puerto Banus, which we conveniently referred to as 'the rich people place' for the rest of the trip. We walked around, took photos with boats, took photos of the sunset, scaled rocks to try and get a better view and saw plenty of Rolls Royce and cars I don't even know the name of.

Dinner was at Bodega La Venecia which really had the yummiest sangria ever. Probably because there wasn't all that much alcohol in it but it was like love at first sip.

We headed over to Marbella's old town the next day, had the most terrible cheesecake of our lives in one of the cafes and got on with just exploring. There really wasn't much to see, it was just nice walking around 'cos they had flowers and plants growing all over the place.

The place with the cheesecake I had to spit out. Rude, I know but I just couldn't.

We headed back to the beach after that because the ladies wanted polaroid photos of the beach and we managed to get our car stuck in the sand oops. But we had nice men around (thank goodness) who helped us get life back to normal again so that all worked out.
