For the longest time, Portugal was always one of those "it's nice, but been there done that" sort of place. But I've found myself missing it from time to time, digging out photos, giggling at stupid moments, complaining about how 凹凸不平 the roads are until my Chinese was rudely corrected by RS, touching my belly fat every time I remember the number of thousand-calorie Francesinhas I shoved down my throat, reimagining myself walking down the beautiful streets and stopping every 5 minutes to stare at yet another set of intricately designed tiles.
Jo and I hit up Porto and Lisbon, but as we sat at the Lisbon airport waiting for our flight back to Barca, we both looked at each other and nodded in full agreement that Porto was no doubt our favourite.
Every time I wonder how I gained that much weight on exchange, I look at my food photos, remember the day I ate 6 egg tarts at one go and suddenly the world makes sense again.
We decided to take one of the boat rides so we could just sit for a bit because we'd been walking E V E R Y W H E R E. What started as a really scenic and exciting boat ride got boring pretty fast and I'm sure I actually dozed off at some point. But they gave us these tickets for complementary wine tasting at one of the many wine cellars so no I'm not complaining about that.
Our Airbnb host told us about some really cool fish market along the river (and I'm a sucker for fish markets) so we thought it'd be a good idea to head down. In the evening. What kind of fish market opens in the evening I don't even know what we were thinking.
Seriously is my brain ever on form?
Anyway we arrived all thirsty and sweaty BUT really happy because golden hour in Porto is nothing short of magical.
So we grabbed bottles of cold water and sat at the dock, bathing ourselves in that glorious golden light, listening to the waves crash, watching the sun set and trying our best to capture the moment
for
all
eternity.
With all honesty, Jo and I may have a tad too many romantic moments together but I regret nothing. Except maybe not having more wine while I was there.
