Reality check

On Monday I OT-ed, grumpily took the MRT home with the hopes of making it to bed by 11pm to avoid falling asleep at work the next day. And of course that never happened becos 1) you've seen enough 9gag to know for a fact it never happens, and 2) the MRT broke down at Dover.

Of course I was mad. I was so0o0o0o0o close to a warm shower, hot food and an inviting bed, but instead I took 2 buses squeezing with what felt like the entire population of Ang Mo Kio.

So I spent the next 40 mins angry-texting/snapchatting about the pains of life and the meaning of it all if life were to be this horrible after a long day at work.

And after awhile (yeah took me long enough) it finally dawned on me that the breakdown probably meant a whole ton of other tired and hungry people having to leave in the middle of dinner or a break to help out with the breakdown, putting in more manpower to deal with the crowds, shuttling angry and frustrated passengers to more accessible areas, working out the mechanical and electrical issues with the circuits and spending the rest of the night and possibly week writing report after report.

An hour ago I was closing the windows in the living room getting ready to head to bed (see, still not sleeping despite them efforts) when I noticed the car-washing uncle still downstairs - armed with his yellow cloth, red pail and bicycle for another night's work. So I creepily stood there for a good 5 minutes just watching him work his way around the cars - at 12.32am. Of course my imagination ran wild and by the time I decided it was time to quit being a stalker, I'd already conjured up a dramatic tale of his life story.

Here's a terribly blurry photos from me 'cos lighting x moving subject x lousy photographer.

I guess at the end of it all, we're all individuals trying to survive in this unfeeling world. Each with our own interests, obligations and a varying limitation of options. So here's my reality check and reminder that we all have our share of struggles and dreams.

Well, except for the assholes who selfishly stand on the right side of the escalator during peak hours and the other assholes who don't make space in the MRTs. Y'all are jerks.
